Seven Decades of Breed Stewardship

The Basset Hound Club of Southern California, Inc. officially became a club in 1951. As an AKC-licensed club, the BHCSC meets the American Kennel Club's requirements to host events that are in all respects identical to AKC member events.

The BHCSC is a proud member club of the Basset Hound Club of America (BHCA), the national parent club for the breed. This connection ensures our work supports the broader mission of preserving the basset hound across the country.

Why We Exist

We encourage and promote the ownership and breeding of purebred basset hounds, and we do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection.

We protect and advance the best interests of the breed by example and education, by encouraging sportsmanlike conduct at dog shows and trials, and by offering prizes at our events.

Our Standards

All BHCSC members agree to follow the club's Code of Ethics, which establishes standards of conduct with particular emphasis on responsible breeding practices and sportsmanship.

  • Breed basset hounds that conform as closely as possible to the AKC Standard
  • Prioritize the health and welfare of all dogs
  • Provide honest and transparent information to puppy buyers
  • Maintain a spirit of good sportsmanship at all events

Licensed by the American Kennel Club

The AKC was established in 1884 as a registry of purebred dogs. The BHCSC holds several AKC-sanctioned events every year, including conformation shows, field trials, obedience, rally, and Canine Good Citizen testing.
